Social Media Isn’t the Same as Radio & Other Mainstream Media

A lot of small, medium and even super-large companies have found out that social media doesn’t often have the same focus, immediacy, and effectiveness as radio (which reaches about 94% of the American population daily and does so when they are on the move purchasing).  We’ve seen major brands pullback in digital and social, but we strongly believe local advertisers should still be there.

Just as important, you should have someone you can count on for overall strategy.  Developing a strategy for social and overall digital should have a support mechanism that drives local consumers (not regional or even national consumers) to your local business.

Here are some strategies we recommend:

• Focus on 15 miles around your business in the social and other smaller aspects of your marketing plan.  This will limit your costs and keep you in the market top-of-mind game while making sure you have your ‘social net’ out around your super-core of consumers you must attract today.

• Build your mainstream advertising, especially radio, around supporting your digital.  Radio is one of the most powerful ways to drive a lot of important on-the-move customers to your business online.  If you have an online menu, you want couples and families to actually see it often:  Tell the radio, through your messaging over the air.

• Pay close attention to your social and digital messaging to make it local and make sure your radio messages include ‘asking’ people to check you out online and on your socials.

• Make sure you develop an overall strategy and work parts in both social and on the radio to make certain you are seeing more traffic online, in social, and in your business.
