The Detroit Lions have announced that Jack White will perform at halftime of their Thanksgiving game against the Green Bay Packers, airing on FOX at 1 PM EST on Thursday, Nov. 27 from Ford Field in Detroit.

White’s performance at the game was revealed shortly after the Lions announced they were teaming with Eminem and the rapper’s longtime manager, Paul Rosenberg, in a partnership that made them the executive producers of their Thanksgiving halftime show. Additionally, Detroit-native and gospel artist CeCe Winans will perform the national anthem at the Thanksgiving Day game.

White is from Detroit and a musical icon in the city, as well as a 12-time Grammy Award winner. His band, The White Stripes, were just inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame
.
Tthe Lions wrote in a press release: “Born and raised in Detroit as the youngest of 10 siblings, Jack White’s utilitarian approach filters through all his work, from self-producing his own music to the Third Man empire he founded, to his upholstery and various other art and design pursuits. Over a quarter century into his professional musical career, White’s ability to weave relevant, compelling, and poignant artistry into his music leaves him unparalleled.”

This is absolutely perfect. Jack White is a Detroit rock icon, and having him perform at the most Detroit event of the year—the Thanksgiving game against the Packers—is a stroke of genius. It's a celebration of the city's gritty, independent musical spirit that aligns perfectly with the Lions' current identity under Dan Campbell. The energy in that stadium is going to be electric.

Given that his catalog is so vast, spanning The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, and his solo work, do you think he'll lean into the raw, anthemic garage-rock that feels like a football rally cry (like "Seven Nation Army"), or might he surprise everyone with a deeper cut that holds special meaning for Detroit?
