Veteran’s Day Programs

Veterans Day was originally called  Armistice Day which marks the the anniversary of the end of World War I.

This federal holiday is observed annually on November 11th honoring military veterans who have served in the United States Armed Forces.  At the urging of major U.S. veteran organizations, Armistice Day was renamed Veterans Day in 1954.

Ceremonies and programs:

The Carencro Veterans Memorial will host its annual Veterans Day Ceremony on November 9, 2019, at 10 a.m. This is a community event that is open to the public and honors the service and sacrifice of all military men and women. There will be a special tribute featured for this year’s ceremony, Peacetime Patriotism, which specifically focuses on veterans who served from the end of the Vietnam War until Sept. 11, 2001.

The City of Crowley, Mayor and Board of Alderman will hold a Veterans Day Program 2019 Saluting All Who Have Served Sunday, November 10, 2019, 3:00pm at the Historic Rice Theatre 323 North Parkerson Ave in Crowley.

Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office will host a Veteran’s breakfast for all Acadia Parish veterans Nov. 11th at 8 a.m. at American Legion Post 15 in Crowley.

A Veterans Day Celebration honoring the Centennial of the American Legion will be held Saturday, Nov 9, 2019 from 9am to noon at Longfellow-Evangeline State Historic Site in St. Martinville. A Veterans fellowship begins at 7:30am for all veterans who would like to come have coffee and share some time and fellowship with other veterans.  Beginning at 9am, Mayor Melinda Mitchell, along with local officials and clergy will share inspirational messages and prayers. Entrance for the Celebration is free of charge.

Veteran’s Day includes deals and discounts for veterans and military.
