A well-known furniture store owner in Houston, “Mattress Mack,” says he broke out about even despite losing $13-million betting on the Houston Astros to win the World Series.
Apparently, “Mattress Mack” was running a season-long promotion where he promised to refund all furniture purchases of more than $3,000 if the Astros won the World Series. Mack says, he could have won $25 million if the Astros won, but with all of the furniture purchased during the promotion, the $13 million loss on the bet has him break out “about even.”
He said, quote, “I feel like I hedged perfectly . . . I’d do this again tomorrow.”
