Piccadilly Cafeteria In Lafayette’s Oil Center Set To Close

Since the early 1960s, countless thousands have dined at the Oil Center location of Piccadilly Cafeteria. Word got out today (October 24th 2019) that the last trays will pass through the buffet at this location on Sunday October 27th.

Piccadilly began as a stand alone cafeteria in Baton Rouge. It wasn’t until the mid 1940s that expansion began. Reports are that the Oil Center location in Lafayette opened sometime in 1961.

Here’s a 1985 Piccadilly ad featuring LSU coach Bill Arnsparger:

Hamburger steaks with gravy, carrot soufflé, fried chicken, corn bread sticks and what seemed to be an endless variety of desserts (including Jell-O cubes) are just some of the dishes that will be remembered fondly by generations of customers.

Normal business hours for the Oil Center location are 11 am to 4 pm daily.
