Wil Lutz Gave The Saints Their First Win With a Career-Long Field Goal

In what was probably the most exciting Week 1 NFL matchup, the New Orleans Saints topped the Houston Texans in a thrilling 30-28 victory on Monday Night Football.

After a quick Texans score late in the fourth quarter, Drew Brees and the boys quickly went to work in the final seconds of the game.  Drew completed a few passes and put Kicker Wil Lutz in a position to win the game.  Lutz missed his first field goal of the game, a 56 yard kick, and was eager for the chance to redeem himself.  With time expiring, Wil nailed a 58 yard field goal to give the Saints their first win of the season.

The kick was a career long for Lutz, but according to ESPN Stats & Information, it was also the longest field goal in the final 10 seconds of a season-opening game since the 1970 NFL-AFL merger.

The Saints made Lutz one of the highest paid kickers in the NFL, when he signed a five year 20.25 million dollar deal last season.
