Happy INDEPENDENCE Day!

When was the last time you invited someone to a “December 25th” Dinner, or may an “October 31st” Costume Party?

Have you ever thought about why we say “The Fourth of July” using the date as our holiday, rather than calling it Independence Day?

A lot of our popular holidays are not specific to a date, but those that do are not generally referred to by them.

How Will YOU celebrate?

Celebrating our Nation’s Independence is a long standing tradition in the US.

During the Revolutionary War, George Washington gave his soldiers a special treat for the holiday.

On July 4, 1778, George Washington ordered a double ration of rum for his soldiers. He also ordered a cannon salute to celebrate the occasion.

Drinking was a large part of historical Fourth of July celebrations — it was traditional to drink 13 toasts, one for each state in the union.

Updating that tradition, with 50 toasts, may be a bit excessive.

In a bizarre coincidence, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams both died on July 4, 1826 — the nation’s 50th birthday.
