24 Year Old Lafayette Native, Danielle Mauldin Is Fighting For Her Life

Beating the odds doesn’t do justice when describing the last 3 weeks in the life of Danielle Mauldin.

On May 17th, the 24 year old Lafayette native and Destin resident became sick.  She couldn’t keep anything down, so she went to the hospital.  The diagnosis was a blood clot that caused her small intestines to fail and an infection that was spreading to other organs.  Danielle was given 24 hours to live.

Hospice was called in, but amazingly Danielle held on!

On May 30th, Danielle was flown to Cleveland where she has has several surgeries to remove her small intestine, part of her large intestine, additional blood clots, all in preparation to perform a small intestine transplant.

Danielle is making improvements but has an incredibly long road ahead.
