Prescription Drug Take Back Event This Saturday, October 27

This Saturday, October 27, 2018 the Lafayette Police Department will be partnering with United HealthCare and Lafayette General in the DEA’s sixteenth National Prescription Drug Take Back Event.

The event will take place at University Hospital and Clinics located at 2390 W. Congress Street from 10am-2pm.

If you have any unwanted prescription drugs that need to be discarded the event will allow you to drop off at the location. Only pills will be accepted. The DEA cannot accept liquids, needles or sharps, only pills or patches. The service is free and anonymous.

The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day addresses a crucial public safety and public health issue. According to the 2016 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 6.2 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs. The study shows that a majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet. The DEA’s Take Back Day events provide an opportunity for Americans to prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths.
