Fast’s Q&A

What do you love about music?

Music is an instant mood changer for me. Music enhances my life and I love that I get to be a big part of spreading that on Big 102.1. And, when the world gets a little too crazy, music provides total escape. Couldn’t we all use a little escape right now?

What do you like about being on the radio?

Listeners may think I am an extrovert.  I was always a bit of an introvert when I was young. But, there were moments when I stepped out on a limb, usually to try to make someone laugh.  Radio plays right into that because it’s entertainment and it’s immediate entertainment. You get in your car and flip on Big 102.1, that’s our job.  Of course, the music takes center stage. But the small opportunities we have to create a smile are priceless. That’s what I love about being on Big 102.1.

Being on the air at Big 102.1 is a different kind of job. What’s it like to have such an unusual job where you play music at work?

It doesn’t seem unusual to me anymore. I never get tired of so much music.  What’s weird for me is thinking of NOT doing it!  I actually dream this job and live it.  It’s fun just like you hear on the air.

Who is your all-time favorite singer?

That’s a tough one. There’s a lot of great music, right?  Allan Clarke of the Hollies and Karen Carpenter top the list. But there are so many that I love for different reasons.  You should see my music library.

What do you think makes being on the air in Lafayette so different than any other part of the state?

Acadiana is unique not only to Louisiana but the entire universe! The culture, the friendliness, the music, the food.  A lot of places say, “It’s different here” and it isn’t.  In Lafayette, it IS different! It’s our Joie de Vive!  I have been here my entire life.  To be on the radio for you everyday is an honor.  Every day.

Big 102.1 makes a big deal out of playing such a rich variety of superstar artists and different kinds of songs, how do you feel about playing so much…

There are so many hits.  The old saying about the weather in south Louisiana is that if you don’t like it, give it five minutes and it will change. The same holds true for our radio station. No one ever likes every song that their favorite station plays. We work very hard to try to make each song a perfect choice for you.  At Big 102.1, even if you hear a song every once in a while that may not be your favorite, you know you are likely to love what we play next. These are Louisiana’s Greatest Hits.  We didn’t make that up.  You did.  All those superstars we play have created the greatest hits that Lafayette listeners truly love.  Our listeners made them big hits.  We play them.  It feels great.

When you are on the air, how do you make it special for someone just tuning in to Big 102.1

I am just being myself. I think that is important.  Some people on radio have a persona.  I’m just me.  Renee and I are real people living our lives on the air in Lafayette.  Listening to the radio should make people feel good. That’s the Big Morning Show.  This music feels good.  That’s our radio station.  How can it NOT be fun for us and the listeners?!
