Lafayette Police have announced the arrest of a suspect for Attempted Second-Degree Murder in connection to a shooting incident in the parking lot of a Planet Fitness in Lafayette.
According to police, the incident occurred from a verbal altercation over a child custody exchange. Bryant Batiste, 27, was arrested and charged with Attempted Second-Degree Murder. The victim was taken to an area hospital with a non-life threatening injury.

On November 18, 2020 at approximately 9:00 pm, officers with the Lafayette Police Department were dispatched to the parking lot of Planet Fitness located at 1800 NE Evangeline Thruway.
Once on scene, officers located one victim suffering with a gunshot wound to the face. First aid measures were quickly started by first responders. The victim, later identified as Mr. Kyler Ledet, B/M, 32, was transported to a local hospital shortly thereafter with a non-life threatening injury.
The suspect, Mr. Bryant Batiste, B/M,27, was quickly identified, detained, and transported to the police department for an interview. Detectives were able to charge the suspect with Attempted Second-Degree Murder.
The investigation revealed that there was a verbal altercation between the victim and suspect during a child custody exchange. The altercation became violent when the suspect produced a handgun, and shot the victim.
The suspect was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.
