HBO has announced the cancellation of its controversial musical drama series ‘The Idol’ after investing millions of dollars in production and publicity. Co-created by Sam Levinson, Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye and Reza Fahim, the show follows Jocelyn (Lily-Rose Depp), a young pop star struggling to relaunch her career. Despite good audience numbers at its premiere, the show was met with negative reviews due to weak scripts, an excess of nudity and sex scenes, a “very poor performance” by Tesfaye and last-minute dialogue rewrites. It was even classified as a series “hostile to feminism” for the treatment of the main character and the people around her.
