Princess Diana’s ‘Swan Lake’ Necklace Auction is Called Off

The “Swan Lake Suite” necklace worn by Princess Diana at one of her last public appearances has been privately sold to a prominent museum, cancelling the auction that was scheduled to take place on June 27. The set includes a necklace boasting 178 diamonds and five South Sea pearls that Diana wore to a performance of the ballet Swan Lake in London on June 3, 1997. The necklace was designed in collaboration with the royal family’s crown jeweler, David Thomas, and was intended to be a gift to Diana from her then-boyfriend, Dodi Fayed. The initial buyer was a Garrard’s customer, and the set was sold again in 2010 and 2017, with a reported selling price of $12 million. The new owner and selling price of the set are yet to be revealed.
