CANCELED 2022 Glow in the Cro Hot Air Balloon Festival

The 2022 Glow in the Cro Hot Air Balloon Festival at Carencro’s Pelican Park has been canceled this weekend. Ground conditions with the high amount of rain Acadiana have received over the past two weeks, the grounds at Carencro’s Pelican Park are saturated. Presenting issues for producing a safe event. Planning will begin in November for the 2023 Glow in the Cro event, and they expect it to be bigger and better than in 2019. The Mercredi Show will start on Wednesday, September 14th, at Carencro’s Pelican Park.

“With the high amount of rain we have received over the past two weeks, our grounds are saturated. This presents issues getting equipment in, which has already caused the carnival rides to be canceled and for providing a stable parking situation for everyone. Additionally, the current forecast is for rainy weather on both Friday and Saturday afternoons and evenings, which will require us to cancel the “Glows” scheduled for both nights and possibly be unable to set up any of the bands. If we cannot provide the event as intended, it is no point in moving forward with holding it and disappointing everyone. We want to ensure we do not put any spectators at risk or needlessly waste funding to put on an event of this magnitude. Therefore, after much discussion and deliberation about our current weather patterns and the forecast for this coming weekend, we regretfully announce the cancellation of this year’s event. We will start planning for our 2023 Glow in the Cro event in November and expect it to be bigger and better than the 2019 event. Thank you for your understanding.”- Frank Wittenberg, Pelican Park Director
