During Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood’s hosting duties on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, Matthew McConaughey joined the couple virtually as they reminisced on how Matthew and Trisha first met.
“I want to thank you because I’ve never had the chance to publicly thank you…for being in the video for ‘Walkaway Joe.’ It’s been almost 25, 30 years ago now!” Trisha said.
McConaughey said he recalled the moment “very well,” and explained that he was at the University of Austin when he got the page to be in the video.
“I remember I was wearing a pager at the time…anytime that pager would go off, and they’d say, ‘Can you get to San Antonio and audition for this beer commercial or this music video?'”
McConaughey’s appearance in Trisha’s video set him on the path to Hollywood stardom. “Walkaway Joe” made it to number 2 on the Billboard Country music chart.
