Conor McGregor finally made good on his promise to donate to a charity in Acadiana, but it wasn’t Dustin Poirier’s foundation.
After Lafayette’s own UFC star Dustin Poirier called out McGregor for his failure to deliver a promised donation of $500,000 to Poirier’s The Good Fight foundation (after a rematch in which Poirier knocked out McGregor), McGregor instead donated the money to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Acadiana.
According to McGregor and his manager, Poirier didn’t have an adequate plan in place for the donation. Poirier issued a statement saying he regretted making a private situation a public ordeal.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Acadiana called the donation a “game-changer.”
“Boys & Girls Clubs of Acadiana received an unexpected call last week and are humbled to share that Conor McGregor is donating $500,000 to impact youth in South Louisiana by supporting our upcoming 2021 Summer Camp and ongoing health and recreation activities in our 6 Club sites,” the Boys and Girls Club announced on Facebook.
“This investment is a gamechanger! Thank you, Conor, for helping to ensure that our kids have what they need to grow and thrive this summer!”
