Carla Wallenda, Member of Famous High-Wire Act, Dead at 85

Carla Wallenda, a member of “The Flying Wallendas” high-wire act and the last surviving child of the famed troupe’s founder, has died at the age of 85.

Carla’s son, Rick Wallenda made the announcement Saturday (March 6) on social media saying she died of natural causes.  Carla Wallenda was the daughter of Karl Wallenda, who had founded the troupe in Germany before moving to the United States in 1928.

Carla Wallenda said she had begun learning to walk on the wire at an early age and she spent years with her father’s troupe in the Ringling Brother’s circus.  Her brother and sister also performed in the act.
