Tokyo Summer Olympics Will Happen, I.O.C. Says
Government officials in Japan say the Tokyo Summer Olympics will go on, despite a new report that said otherwise.
On Thursday, the British newspaper The Times reported the Summer Olympics were going to be canceled because of the ongoing pandemic. But, Friday morning, the local organizing committee released a statement stating plans are moving forward.
“[We are] fully focused on hosting the games this summer.”
IOC President Thomas Bach also pledged the games will happen and there’s “no plan B.“
The Tokyo Summer Olympics were originally scheduled for last summer but got rescheduled for summer 2021.
