From Lafayette Consolidated Government:
MAYOR-PRESIDENT URGES CAUTION THIS THANKSGIVING
Lafayette, LA – As the COVID-19 positivity rate continues to climb in Lafayette Parish, Mayor-President Josh Guillory reiterates the importance of safely celebrating Thanksgiving.
Be Careful
Be careful when gathering with family who do not live in your household. It’s safest to gather only with the people in your household. Celebrating with others outside your household adds risks. Reduce risks by wearing a mask when social distancing is not possible. Be sure to wash your hands frequently. Do not touch your face, eyes, or mouth. Keep gatherings small, local, and brief, if possible.
Be Mindful
Be mindful of loved ones with increased risk for severe infection, including the elderly and those with underlying conditions such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension, or heart disease.
Be Thankful
Thanksgiving is about showing our loved ones and community that we care. This year, we can express our thanks to all of our local healthcare warriors by following the President’s Coronavirus Task Force guidelines.
Know the Risks
-
- Low-risk activities: having dinner with everyday household members, shopping online, and hosting a virtual dinner with family and friends.
-
- Medium-risk activities: attending small outdoor gatherings with friends and family.
-
- High-risk activities: attending large indoor gatherings with people who are not from our immediate household, going to crowded stores, or having potluck-style dinner.
The Mayor-President wishes all a happy and safe Thanksgiving and stresses the importance of using good judgment and making the best decisions for you and your loved ones. He also expresses thanks to all healthcare and frontline workers risking their lives to ensure all of us get to spend time with family this holiday.
