Click it or Ticket Campaign Begins

Starting November 16th and ending on the 29th, the U.S. Department of Transportation will begin an effort with local law enforcement to enforce seatbelt use among Acadiana drivers.

As the holidays draw closer, more and more people will be hitting the road to visit their friends and families, specifically on thanksgiving. Projections from AAA say that this year, travelling by car will be the preferred choice over air travel, meaning there will be an exceptionally high volume of drivers on the roads this year.

According to NHTSA, in 2018, there were 9,778 unbuckled passenger vehicle occupants killed in crashes in the United States. In that same year, 56 percent of passenger vehicle occupants killed at night (6 p.m.–5:59 a.m.) were not wearing their seat belts, which is why a large focus of the Click it or Ticket campaign is nighttime enforcement. The roads will be busy, and law enforcement will be busier. Be safe and be smart… buckle up!
