SCOTUS ‘Punts’ on Trump Tax Docs

On Thursday, the Supreme Court of the United States sent a pair of cases concerning President Donald Trump’s tax documents back to lower courts.

The Supreme Court ruled that the president is not immune to a subpoena from District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. over his financial and tax records but also declined a separate case to issue a definitive ruling on whether congressional committees can have access to the financial records.  Both issues were sent back to lower courts.

Vance has subpoenaed the tax records as part of a probe to find wrongdoing by the president and his organization.

The president “may raise further arguments as appropriate,” in lower courts in an effort to keep Vance from obtaining his documents according to Chief Justice John Roberts.
