Mouth Shield to be Tested by NFL Teams to Limit Spread of Coronavirus

The NFL has unveiled a mouth shield designed to limit the spread of the coronavirus on the field of play.

The Oakley Mouth Shield will be distributed to all 32 teams to be tested as safety protocol negotiations are ongoing between the league and players.  There is no current mandate to wear the mouth shield.

With visibility and breathability being concerns, Oakley developed plastic shields that extend downward and attach to the faceguard of the football helmet.  Airways in the face shield around the mouth allow for breathing but are designed to not allow the direct transmission of droplets.

Both the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers have already received the mouth shields for testing.
