LCG RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS BUDGET AWARD

For the seventh year in a row, Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) has been awarded the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its fiscal year 2019-2020 budget.

“Receiving this award is an honor and represents the hard work and commitment that goes into budgeting for the needs of this government and our citizens.  It is the culmination of months of effort by Finance & Management and the Administration,” Lorrie R. Toups, CPA, LCG Chief Financial Officer said.

LCG’s achievement falls in line with guidelines established by the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting and the GFOA’s best practices on budgeting, reflecting LCG’s commitment to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting.

To receive the award, LCG had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation to the Lafayette City and Parish Councils. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity’s budget serves as:

  • A policy document

  • A financial plan

  • An operations guide

  • A communications device

Budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all four categories, and in the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories to receive the award.

Lafayette Mayor-President Josh Guillory praised the Office of Finance and Management and Chief Financial Officer Lorrie Toups for their remarkable achievement.

“I am grateful for and commend our staff for their quality of work and dedication in governmental budgeting. Winning the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award seven years in a row demonstrates our staff’s commitment to high standards,” Guillory said.

Award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America.
