In a last-minute press conference, Saturday afternoon Governor John Bel Edwards issued a “Mask Mandate,” this will apply to all over 8 years of age. This mandate will go in place midnight Monday morning. The Governor stated that for the last five of seven days the state has seen a positivity rate of higher than ten percent.
The governor also shuttered all bars through July 24th, he pointed out 36 outbreaks in bars. He also stated that younger people are spreading to older people. Edwards also said he is trying to avoid going backward.
He is mandating better compliance with masks, smaller crowds, and social distancing. He is also asking for people to refrain from having social gatherings in backyards.
