Tyson Foods to Lower Beef Prices After Grocery Prices Spike

Tyson Foods has announced that it will temporarily lower prices on select beef products as grocery prices spike amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

According to a recent report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Consumer Price Index for groceries increased by 2.6% in April, making it the largest increase since February 1974.  Tyson Foods said the discounted prices are designed to help “keep beef on family tables” and discounts will be in effect for the remainder of the week.

“The ongoing pandemic has disrupted the food system. It’s created challenges for our operations, many of our customers, and consumers,” reads a statement shared by Tyson Foods. “These are unprecedented times, and although they have been difficult, Tyson believes that the future is bright.”

The company says it will cut prices on beef roasts, ground beef products, and meat trays with discounts up to 20 or 30%.
