President’s Day is Monday, February 17

President’s Day is more than just about sales and a reminder to prune roses and select shrubs.

Louisiana observes President’s Day on Monday, February 17, 2020.

Calling the holiday Presidents’ Day and not just George Washington’s birthday, it is supposed to help Americans reflect on not just the first president, but also the founding of our nation, the values, and what Washington explains in his Farewell Address.

There are some calendar discrepancies when it comes to this holiday’s date because each state determines its own legal holidays.

Many calendars list the third Monday of February each year as President’s Day, also acknowledged as George Washington’s birthday and a federal holiday in the United States. George Washington was actually born on February 11 in 1731 according to the Old Style Julian calendar and was changed to February 22, 1732, on the New Style Gregorian calendar.
