A 60-year-old surfer from New Zealand said he recently escaped an attack by a great white shark by punching it in the eye.
Nick Minogue told the New Zealand Harold that a shark had bit his arm and latched onto his surfboard at Pauanui Beach. Minogue said he fended off the nearly 9-foot beast by shouting at it and repeatedly punching it in the eye.
“So I actually shouted at it ‘f— off!’ and went to punch it in the eye and missed,” he told the Herald. “Then I pulled my fist back and shouted ‘f— off!’ again and got it right smack bang in the eye.”
After a couple of punches, the shark disengaged and swam off. Minogue said only one shark tooth actually punctured his skin.
