President Trump has unveiled a comprehensive peace plan for the Middle East.
In co-operation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Trump has offered up details of the two-state solution. Under the plan, Palestine would have to reach certain benchmarks, such as rooting out terrorism, to ultimately achieve a state. The proposed Palestinian state would be double its current size and including a capital in East Jerusalem. The plan proposes a tunnel to connect a Palestinian state in the West Bank to the Gaza Strip.
This is the first time Israel has agreed to a Palestinian state with defined borders. Israel has agreed to halt settlement construction for four years.
The plan allows the Palestinians to ultimately secure their own areas, but Israel would maintain overall security until it’s deemed that the Palestinians are fully capable.
Palestinians have initially been negative towards the plan.
