PETA Losing Fight to Rename “Chicken Dinner Road” in Idaho

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals have pleaded for the renaming of “Chicken Dinner Road” in Idaho.

In the Summer of 2019,  PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman stated:

“just like dogs, cats, and human beings, chickens feel pain and value their own lives.  PETA is asking Mayor Nancolas to change this road’s name to one that celebrates chickens as individuals, not as beings to kill, chop up, and label as ‘dinner.'”

PETA doesn’t seem to be winning the battle.  On Monday (Jan. 27, 2020), the Idaho House of Representatives passed a resolution to preserve the history of Chicken Dinner Road.

“According to local lore, the road was named Chicken Dinner in the 1930s after Idaho Gov. C. Ben Ross was persuaded by a local farmer’s wife to have the road fixed after eating her fried chicken dinner.” – KVTB.com

It seems that locals and the public are in favor of the historic, nearly 20-mile road keeping its name.  The measure will now head to the Senate.
