If you spent your time buying extra fries or soda and collecting McDonald’s Monopoly pieces… you were wasting your time.
An HBO docuseries entitled “McMillions” will explore how the game was rigged between 1995 and 2001. It turns out McDonald’s were victims as well. They were paying out, but it wasn’t luck that was determining the winners.
A guy who was in charge of security for the company that made the game pieces was stealing them, then giving them to other people to cash in. Those people were giving him a cut of the winnings. By the time the feds were able to break up the scam, they had 50 people up on charges of mail fraud and conspiracy.
“McMillions” will premiere on February 3rd on HBO.
