Martin Luther King, Jr Events This Weekend

A number of ceremonies and activities are set for Martin Luther King, Jr Day.

  • The Diocese of Lafayette Black Catholic Ministries will host its annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Mass & Celebration on Friday, January 17, 2020, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. Bishop J. Douglas Deshotel will serve as celebrant and homilist. Awards will be presented to parishioners throughout the Diocese who have exemplified the characteristics and heroic virtues of Rev. King and who have contributed to their local faith community, church parish, and the greater community in a substantial way. www.diolaf.org

  • A Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration in Eunice will be January 18, 2020 and begin with a prayer breakfast at 9 a.m. at New Zion Baptist Church, assembly at 12:30 p.m. at the Eunice Municipal Complex, parade at 2 p.m. Guest speaker this year is Donald Washington, director of the U.S. Marshals Service.

  • The National Association of University Women Crowley Branch presents the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Youth Musical January 19th at 3 p.m. at the Grace Bible Baptist Church on North Western Avenue in Crowley. Event is free and open to the public.

  • Please join the St. Martinville African-American Museum on January 19, 2020 at St. Martinville Jr. High School from 3 to 6 for the official flag raising, school march and Dr. King program, “DREAM” for all people.

  • Israelite Baptist Church in Crowley will hold an MLK Prayer Breakfast January 20th in the Grady Poullard Building from 9-11 a.m. Tickets are $10. Theme: “Developing the Leader Within: Our Community’s Greatest Need.

  • The Crowley Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta sorority, Inc., will host it’s annual MLK Day Program at 2 p.m. January 20th at the MLK Center on West Hutchinson Avenue and commemorative walk at 1 p.m. Event is free and the community is invited.

  • A city-wide Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration will be held Monday, January 20, 2020 at the Martin Luther King Center and Civic Center in Rayne.  This year’s theme is “Celebrate the Man; Live the Message”, with a bike decorating contest, guest speakers and wellness program.

  • The Martin Luther King, Jr., Holiday Committee of Lafayette has coordinated activities in Lafayette January 18-20, 2020:
