What do you love about music?
EVERYTHING! As far back as I can remember, music has always been an important part of my life. Bob Marley said it best, “music is like a drug, when it hits you, you feel no pain.” No matter your mood, I feel music is the outlet at which our emotions can be best felt and thoughts can be cleared. I grew up listening to my Dad smashing his set of Pearl Drums to pieces. Saturday mornings for us, was coffee milk and Beatles movies.
Concerts, festivals and live music… IS my dose of sanity and therapy.
I feel as if music is the glue that binds people together on so many levels. For me, its a passion, a form of release for the soul!
What do you like about being on the radio?
I love being a positive part of someone’s day. I love the interactions between our listeners and sharing the experience of the music! I love that Big 102.1 is local people invested in the community.
Being on the air at Big 102.1 is a different kind of job. What’s it like to have such an unusual job where you play music at work?
My Dad has told me since I was a wee-little bit. “Jenn, have a job you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life!” Truest statement I have ever heard! Music being such an integral part of my life, Radio is and always has been a perfect match! You’re talking to someone who gets to do hour long commercial free playlists on Big 102.1!
Who is your all-time favorite singer?
This depends so much upon my mood. I like a wide variety of artists. That’s why I like being on the radio.
What do you think makes being on the air in Lafayette so different than any other part of the state?
I feel as if no matter ‘how big’ Lafayette/Acadiana has grown or will grow…being local here means more than it does in other places. We still shop local, eat local, support local and people care about their neighborhoods and community! We’re right here and you can hear our experiences on the air. There’s no place like Lafayette and there is nothing like being on the air here.
Big 102.1 makes a big deal out of playing the songs other stations seem to be missing these days. Louisiana’s Greatest Hits you call it. With such a rich variety of superstar artists and different kinds of songs, how do you feel about playing so much music on the air in Lafayette?
I am ALL about music, obviously!! And, I feel, if our ‘job’ is to give listeners what they want! The variety of music and the mix of artists on Big 102.1 is unique. The vibe of the station brings out the good times! It’s a station that everyone in the family can listen to with songs everyone knows and loves! I LOVE being able to sing Whitney Houston at the top of my lungs with my 10 year old on the way to school in the morning, too!
When you are on the air, how do you make it special for someone just tuning in to Big 102.1?
I have always been ‘Big’ on experiences and bringing the experience of being that fan to the radio. We may get inside info or grab on to an experience we can relate directly to listeners. That’s cool. I try to be myself and make Big 102.1 feel like home!
