Summer Reading Challenge

June 1, 2021 @ 8:00 am - July 31, 2021 @ 5:00 pm

| Free

This summer, the Lafayette Public Library invites you to Find Your Tale @ LPL by joining the Tails & Tales Summer Reading Challenge! Whether your tale includes books, video games, Adventure Kits, music, or programs, we hope your tale begins by exploring any of the nine Lafayette Public Library locations!

We are challenging all ages in the community to reach a personal goal of 600 minutes, and a combined community goal of 2,000,000 minutes read from June 1 to July 31. That can be as easy as 10 minutes per day! Read books and participate in activities to earn virtual badges. Once you’ve read 600 minutes, stop by your favorite library location to claim a prize and be entered for a grand prize drawing. The more badges you earn, the more chances you have to win! Keep reading and recording to help us reach our community goal by the end of summer. Beginning Tuesday, June 1, register online at lafayettepubliclibrary.beanstack.org or call your library to sign up. For details, visit lafayettepubliclibrary.org/summer.

There are so many benefits to participating in a Summer Reading Challenge: It’s easy to participate; the adventures are endless because a good book can take you anywhere; reading can improve your health and happiness at any age; and last but not least, reading is lots of fun! Learn more about our Summer Reading Challenge by visiting the Library’s YouTube Channel:

Children Summer Reading Challenge 2021

Children may pick up a Summer Safari Passport to get stamped as they visit the Main and four Regional Library summer destinations: Main Library African Savanna, North Regional Library On the Farm, South Regional Library Louisiana Wetlands, East Regional Library Amazon Rainforest, and West Regional Library Australian Outback. They can record reading minutes in the passport and complete fun summer activities to win a prize and be entered in the grand prize drawing for a bike!

Summer reading programs are designed to encourage students to keep reading during the summer months. Light reading over the summer is a fun and easy way for students to prevent “summer slide” – a loss of reading skills. With our 2021 Tails & Tales Summer Reading Challenge, children can discover learning activities, teens can strengthen reading skills, and adults can explore great books.

Summer Reading Sponsors include Broussard & David, LLC, Chick-fil-A, Friends of the Lafayette Public Library, Kart Ranch, Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers, Tropical Smoothie Café, and Whataburger.
