The Queen of rock ‘n’ roll, Tina Turner (born Ana Mae Bullock), is dead. Turner began her career in the 1950s and went on to win eight Grammys.

Tina Turner was born November 26, 1939, in Nutbush, TN. Her career was launched when she met Ike Turner who she later married.

After years of abuse by Ike, Tina divorced the singer. Life after Ike wasn’t easy. She struggled, taking gigs anywhere she could. But in the 1980s, Tina had a huge resurgence with a song she originally didn’t want to record. “What’s Love Got to Do With It” catapulted Turner’s solo career into the stratosphere and made her a hit with the MTV audience.

Tina Turner went on to have massive solo and duet Top 40 hits and sold-out concerts in the biggest stadiums in the world. In 1988 her show in Rio de Janeiro was attended by 180,000 fans, one of the largest concert crowds in the history of music.

In 1985 Turner starred opposite Mel Gibson in “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome” and also performed the title track from the movie.

In 1995 Tina Turner recorded the theme for the movie “Golden Eye” and by 2008 was on a whirlwind concert tour. She retired in 2009.

Tina battled illnesses that included a stroke, kidney transplant and colon cancer. She lost her son Craig to suicide in 2018 and her younger son Ronnie died in 2022.
