Ex-President Bill Clinton Admitted to ICU, Treated for Infection

Former President Bill Clinton has been admitted to a California ICU, where he’s being treated for a urinary tract infection that spread to his bloodstream, doctors say.

“He was admitted to the ICU for close monitoring and administered IV antibiotics and fluids,” says Dr. Alpesh Amin, chair of medicine at UC Irvine Medical Center. “He remains at the hospital for continuous monitoring.”

Amin adds Clinton is only in the hospital’s ICU “for privacy and safety.” Amin, who announced Clinton’s admission early Thursday evening, says the ex-president has been undergoing treatment since Tuesday.

“After two days of treatment, his white blood cell count is trending down and he is responding to antibiotics well,” he says. “We hope to have him go home soon.”
