3 Things About The Changing Landscape of Digital Marketing

IT ISN’T REALLY FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE

It has happened to almost everyone; a conversation, an inquiry, or even an errant click, leads to an absolute onslaught of social media advertisement and suggestions based on your digital “preferences”. What at first may have seemed like a coincidence is now a regular, daily invasion of privacy, and for a growing majority of consumers, irritating overload.

Initially, early tech adopters were willing to trade privacy for access to the new and exciting Apps and tech products they wanted, but as time passed and generations have evolved, there is growing reluctance over privacy concerns. Given the cumulative value of collected data, big tech has truly had the advantage. For a growing number of consumers, automatic acceptance of terms and conditions is being replaced with a search for privacy settings.

LOW HANGING FRUIT

Ideally, every business hopes to find customers who actually want or need the goods and services they offer. Digital tech promised to deliver just that; qualified customers, determined by algorithm, just waiting to see your product or brand. Businesses that have depended heavily on digital marketing platforms may be finding the promises empty and the targeted ads, are missing the mark.

JUST SAY NO

Last week Apple CEO Tim Cook introduced new opt-out tracking, that will allow consumers to stop Google, Facebook, and others from automatically mining personal data. The iOS 14.5 is one of the most anticipated software updates for iPhones and iPads because of this new App Tracking Transparency. If you haven’t done the most recent update, this option promises to be widely adopted by Apple users with other companies no doubt preparing to follow suit.

Research continues on the number of Apple and App users that are considering the tracking opt-out and early estimates are as high as 70%.
Without this personal data, the effectiveness of digital marketing alone will be significantly diminished.
