State Senator Cleo Fields Asks For No Football

State Senator Cleo Fields of Baton Rouge is asking the BESE board to cancel High School Football for the fall.

In a letter published on Monday, Fields is asking the BESE board to consider a suspension of all athletic activities for this fall. The BESE board will meet on July 14th to discuss emergency rules concerning the reopening of schools. In his letter, he did not state any medical reasons but did question the LHSAA, the governing body over athletics in Louisiana.

“I am requesting the board to include a suspension of ALL athletic activities for this fall in any rules adopted regarding the reopening of schools for the coming school year. This suspension should include all activities of any kind that would include student in-person participation in a group setting, including conditioning, practice, and team meetings. This issue is much too critical to leave these decisions to the Louisiana High School Athletic Association, which is a private entity. It is our responsibility to ensure that the health and safety of our children is placed above any athletic endeavor at any time or place.” – State Senator Cleo Fields
