Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Has Been Undergoing Chemotherapy to Treat Recurrence of Cancer

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has been undergoing chemotherapy to treat a recurrence of cancer.

On Friday, Justice Ginsburg said in a statement released by the Supreme Court that she has been undergoing chemotherapy treatment since May because of a recurrence of cancer.

“I have often said I would remain a member of the Court as long as I can do the job full steam,” Ginsburg said. “I remain fully able to do that.”

Ginsburg said she began chemotherapy after a periodic scan followed by a biopsy revealed lesions on her liver. She said the treatment is “yielding positive results” and she will continue to receive bi-weekly treatments.

Ginsburg was diagnosed with early-stage pancreatic cancer in 2009.  In August 2019, she completed radiation treatment for the disease.
