Governor John Bel Edwards Calls for Fasting and Prayer for Those Affected by COVID-19

In a press conference on Thursday, Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards called for three days of fasting and prayer for those affected by the coronavirus outbreak.

“I know it’s a little bit unusual,” Edwards said. “This will be a spiritual diet and exercise that I as a Catholic Christian believe is very important anyway.”

The governor invited everyone in the state to participate regardless of their religious faith.  Edwards called for three days of fasting and praying during lunchtime from July 20 through July 22.  He said the idea came from a teleconference call last week with religious leaders in the state.

The prayers are intended for the people of Louisiana, the sick, caretakers, and the families of those who have died.
