Evangeline Downs Racetrack Planning to Reopen As Early As Friday

Evangeline Downs owners are hopeful to reopen the racetrack as early as Friday.

With Louisiana expected to enter into Phase 2 of reopening after the COVID-19 outbreak, Boyd Gaming, the owners of Evangeline and Delta Downs, are hopeful to reopen this weekend.  Since late March, trainers were allowed to exercise horses on the track as well as allowed use of the stables.  However, the thoroughbred season, which was set to begin in mid-April, has been delayed.

The Evangeline Downs casino area opened on a limited basis last week and owners look to open up the track this weekend while following guidelines issued by the state.

“We plan to follow the current guidelines regarding event attendance that are placed into effect by the state. One of the restrictions includes mass gatherings. When we open, we are going to do that safely even though it changes the way we do business.” – Vice-President of Communications for Boyd Gaming David Strow
