With Mercedes-Benz Contract Expiring, Superdome Will Seek New Name Sponsor

The Mercedes-Benz Superdome will have a new name, come 2021.

The 10-year naming contract for the Mercedes-Benz Superdome will expire next year, according to Forbes, and the iconic New Orleans stadium will be looking for a new stadium sponsorship.  In 2017, Mercedes-Benz Stadium opened, featuring New Orleans Saints NFL rival, the Atlanta Falcons.  Mercedes-Benz has chosen to focus its sponsorship on the new Atlanta venture.

So, while the Superdome will continue to undergo renovations, it will also have a new name in the future.  According to Forbes, the Saints ranked 3rd out of American sports franchises for “Most Passionate Fan Base” and New Orleans had the best overall fan experience in the league for the last 3 seasons.  Naming rights sponsors give the company the opportunity to align with two brands, the New Orleans Saints and the Superdome, and, according to Forbes, the “Mercedes-Benz Superdome” receives an average of 40,064 media mentions per season.

The Mercedes-Benz 10-year naming rights deal was worth between $50 million and $60 million.
