Parks And Recreation Allows Baseball and Softball

As earlier reported, play at recreation facilities in Lafayette parish are restarting baseball and softball programs as early as this afternoon. Carencro’s Pelican Park is hosting a tournament this weekend with Phase One restrictions in place. Warchief’s baseball, that is hosted at Pelican Park, will begin practice on Monday. Lafayette Little League begins practice on Friday. Youngsville Sports Complex is also starting practice on Monday. Competition is set to play on June 8th.

Lafayette Parks and Recreation have announced that they have approved the restarting of baseball and softball for youth in Lafayette Parish. The chartered youth associations, under the auspices of the Parks and Recreation Department, can continue with team registration and the drafting process.

Once the teams are formed, organized practice sessions can be held at the various parks.  Official games may begin any time after June 1, 2020 and the season will conclude on or before July 17, 2020.  There will not be any postseason or all-star events at the conclusion of the 2020 season.

The participation for 2020 is voluntary and if any youth that previously registered is not willing to play, a full refund will be processed by the youth organization.  Parents are asked to contact the neighborhood officials with any concerns or questions.
