New York, New Jersey, and More North Eastern State Beaches to Reopen by Memorial Day

New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Delaware will begin reopening some of their beaches by Memorial Day.

State leaders came together in agreement to reopen beaches with certain restrictions to protect against the spread of COVID-19, such as a 50% capacity limit and the prohibition of group sports.  Beaches controlled by cities, towns, and counties will be at the mercy of their local governments.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said that if New York didn’t open its beaches, several other beaches would see an influx of people.

“Because the problem with a beach is if its overcrowded.  If it’s 50 percent of occupancy you are fine. The problem is if you overcrowd at the beach. And if other states were opening and New York wasn’t you would have millions of people from New York flooding those beaches there would be a problem and that wouldn’t help anyone.” – Cuomo

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy also said state beaches would be reopened in time for Memorial Day weekend.
