Forecast: Above average hurricane season with 16 named storms

A new prediction today from Colorado State University, one of the nation’s leading hurricane forecasters, Colorado State University says expect more than usual activity in the Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean when the season starts in barely two months.

“We are seeing signals in the early April environment that suggest that we may have an above average hurricane season,” CSU Forecasters say we should expect 16 named storms between June 1st and November 30th, 2020.

The average since 1981 is for about 12 named storms in a given year.

“We are seeing very warm surface temperatures in the Atlantic,” forecasters explained. “Which is very favorable for hurricane activity.”

Colorado State is predicting eight hurricanes with four of then becoming major storms at category three or above.
