Louisiana to Limit Size of Gatherings to Fewer than 50 to Prevent Spread of Coronavirus

At a press conference on Monday, Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards announced that gatherings of 50 people or more will no longer be permitted in an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

This change includes the closing of non-tribal casinos, bars, movie theaters, and other areas where large groups of people gather.  Restaurants will be allowed to operate as drive-thru, takeout, and delivery only.

“More aggressive steps are necessary to fight the spread of COVID-19 across Louisiana. Following additional guidance from the CDC, gatherings of more than 50 people are no longer permitted, bars and casinos must close and restaurants will only be able to offer take out or delivery,” Gov. Edwards said. “These limitations were difficult to make, but they are necessary to slow the spread of COVID-19, protect the health of Louisianans and flatten the curve.”

The changes are to go into effect until midnight and last through April 13, 2020.  In the latest report around noon on Monday, there was a total of 132 cases of COVID-19 in Louisiana.
