Hollywood mogul, Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 23 years in prison for rape and criminal sex act convictions.
New York State Supreme Court Justice James Burke sentenced the 67-year-old Weinstein Wednesday. Weinstein was convicted on a count of a criminal sex act for the 2006 assault of a production assistant and 3rd-degree rape of another woman in 2013.
“Thousands of men are losing due process. I’m worried about this country,” – Harvey Weinstein complained after his accusers confronted him in court.
Weinstein continues to maintain his innocence and claims any sexual activity was consenual. He faced accusations from more than 90 women with many saying Weinstein used his powerful position in Hollywood to gain their trust.
Harvey Weinstein will be transferred to New York’s state prison system. The agency will then evaluate his case to determine which facility meets his security, medical, mental health and other needs.
