20 Casinos in Louisiana to be Shut Down for 2 Weeks to Prevent the Spread of Coronavirus

20 casinos in Louisiana will shut down at midnight tonight for the duration of at least two weeks to help prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

The closure includes riverboat casinos and tracks as well as land-based casinos.  Ronnie Jones, chair of Louisiana’s gambling board made the announcement on Monday.  The decision comes after the U.S. Center for Disease Control recommended that gatherings of 50 or more should be canceled or postponed for the next eight weeks.

The tribal casinos do not fall under this jurisdiction but are individually assessing their respective situations.  Video poker truck stops have not been shut down.
