Video game retailer, GameStop, has announced plans to close anywhere from 180 to 200 stores around the world. The announcement comes despite the company’s plan to renovate its stores with more playable games, esports, and a retro approach.
GameStop CFO, James Bell, says stores are underperforming. The new generation of consoles, which allow players to purchase and download games straight to the console, have begun to make retail stores obsolete. Bell says the company expects its year-over-year sales to be down for the next three or four quarters.
