Plan To Keep Saints In Louisiana Up For Vote

The State Bond Commission is set to vote on a bond issue for the renovation of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. The plan will pave the road to an agreement that will keep the New Orleans Saints for another 30 years. State Treasurer John Schroder says there appear to be no hurdles and approval should be given to the $450 million upgrades. The approval is expected to occur this week without objection. The updates are needed to keep the venue competitive in hosting events, and it would pave the way to a renewal of the Saints lease for another 30 years.

The renovation process will take place over three to four years. The Louisiana Stadium and Exposition District is shouldering the brunt of the renovation in the plan by putting $210 million into the project while the Saints are paying $150 million and the state is putting in $90 million.
