B.J. Ryan Will Once Again Be A Ragin Cajun

The Daily Advertiser is reporting that former All-Star pitcher, B.J. Ryan, is set to be named the Ragin’ Cajuns’ new pitching coach.

Ryan played for the Cajuns in 1997 and 1998.  An All-Sun Belt Conference pitcher in ’98, he was inducted into the UL Athletics Hall of Fame in 2016.  Ryan was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 1998 Major League Baseball Draft, and made his MLB debut in 1999, appearing in one game for the Reds before joining the Baltimore Orioles. The lefty reliever from Bossier City was with the Orioles for seven seasons, including an All-Star year in 2005.  He played his final four seasons for the Toronto Blue Jays ending in 2009, including an All-Star year in 2006.

UL athletic director Bryan Maggard said after Deggs’ hiring that the employment of the Cajuns’ other assistants and staffers — associate head coach/player and program development director

Anthony Babineaux, hitting coach/assistant coach Jake Wells, recruiting coordinator /assistant coach Jeremy Talbot and part-time academic and camp coordinator Chris Domingue — was secure.
